The most notable of Bachs asserts his position as simply the best ever with his popular funeral motet “Jesu, Meine Freude” (1723). As usual, J.S. Bach presents his signature musical double whammy: harmonic and linear complexities that rival today’s avant garde choral works in difficulty to master, along with a stunning aesthetic purity too musically seductive to be called second to anyone.
A century prior, Schutz and Allegri were proving that the Renaissance style need not be forgotten after Monteverdi revolutionized a new one that would come to be (derisively) called the Baroque. Schutz’s modality and Allegri’s polychoral polyphony make a good case for the style of their fathers’ generation, the High Renaissance of 1550-1600
From pieces straddling the Renaissance and Baroque to one straddling the tongue and the cheek, the legendary virtuoso quirk Glenn Gould brings a modern audience back to a time when fugues just came naturally to the ear, and anyone could freely write and perform them... or could they?

An Evening of Traditional Greek Music, Featuring Agapi Mou
Formed two years ago, Agapi Mou is the latest musical project from the young half-Japanese duo of Aya Davidson and Gregory Masaki Jenkins.
The name "Agapi Mou" translates from Greek to mean "my love" and signifies the group's love of and dedication to the traditional music of Greece.
With Aya on violin and vocals and Greg on clarinet and vocals, the group is rounded out with Greek-American percussionist/vocalist Michael Garibaldi and Alan Davidson on the Greek lute (laouto).
Encompassing the diversity of regional musical styles in Greece would be a daunting task for any group, but with graceful nuance,
Agapi Mou threads together an impressive selection, presenting songs and dance tunes from numerous islands, including Crete, Rhodes, Amorgos, Ikaria, Mytillini, and mainland areas such as Thrace, Macedonia, Eipirus,
and the Peloponnese. Many of these selections include the traditional improvisational sections known in Greek as "taximi". The group also
performs a number of selections from nearby countries such as Albania, Turkey, and Armenia.
